The MLSA is pleased to announce the return in 2024 of LabCon, the joint conference of the MLSA and Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM), after a gap of five years. The conference will be held in the Strand Hotel Limerick on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th October 2024 and an exciting programme is currently in development. The MLSA AGM will be held on the afternoon of Friday 4th October.
MLSA members have voted by a large majority to accept the Public Service Agreement 2024-2026 proposals and the implementation of the Devine Report. In a turnout of 80.8% of members, 95.9% have voted to accept the proposals. ... Read More

Following consultation with members and consideration of feedback received from agents, the Executive Committee unanimously agreed to conduct a single ballot of members on the proposed PSA, which provides for implementation of the Devine Report in accordance with Labour Court recommendation LCR22780. The application form for the 2024 Cyril Keogh bursary awards is now available for download in the Members’ Area of the MLSA website. Applications are invited from members who completed an eligible course in the previous two calendar years 2022 and 2023. See terms and conditions on the application form. The closing date for applications is Sunday 31st March 2023.
The officers of the Public Services Committee (PSC) of the Irish Congress of trade Unions (ICTU) met with affiliate and non-affiliated unions and associations this morning to provide an update on the public service pay talks, which adjourned at 3am this morning. Unions expressed concern that the Government’s initial pay offering last night illustrated its lack of preparedness to complete a sustainable and robust multi-year pay deal, and further undermined perceptions of the Government’s approach to the process of securing a new agreement. ... The MLSA is pleased to announce the Cyril Keogh Academic Bursary awards for 2023. In early 2023 prior to the close of applications, the Executive Committee reviewed the scheme and increased the total number of bursaries available to sixteen, an increase of four or 33%. The Executive Committee also retained discretion to increase the number of awards further in any given year.

The long-awaited Medical Scientist Grade Assessment Report by Conal Devine was finally published today and has been emailed to all MLSA members with a cover letter from MLSA Chairperson Kevin O'Boyle. The full report, Kevin's letter and the MLSA submissions to the assessor are available in the Member Updates section of the Members' Area. Members are asked to read the entire report.
The Executive Committee will meet with MLSA agents on Thursday 26th January for a preliminary review of the report ahead of meeting with the employer side.
